Bad Leadership
I wanted to post something concerning some experiences I have recently had here at Airborne. I have learned a lto form watching people, especially NCO's who are in charge of us. I have learned about good and bad leadership techniques, unfrtunately, I must say I have learned a lot more about the bad. Some of it was kind of amusing. we have this Marine Corporal here, who is doing Airborne. He is allabout the Marine Corps and never ceases to brag about it, which is his right. However, it is not the best thing to be doing at an Army school where he is the guest, and it seems to annoy a lot of people. everyday before chow we alldo 10 pullups. Well, a lot of us don't extend our arms all the way, which is how it is really supposed to be done, especially in the USMC. well, he was liek, " I am goign to show you all how to do ten proper MArine Corp pullups" By the time he hit five he was struggling and having barely gotten to 9, he couldn't do anymore. So much for leadership. Everyone railed on him including the sergeant airborne. The worst example i have seen though is thisone sergeant who is a student. However, despite being a student, because of his rank he has control over other students. All eh does is yell, and a lot fo times people deserve it. It is liek he is bitter though. So the other day he calls me out of formation, because he claims I am wearing my coiver wrong. I wasn't aware that it was being worn improperly. it didn't matter. He made me stand on the side of the formation and hold my cover straight out at a 45 degree angle for liek 20 minutes, which is taxing on your arms especially after training all day. Now that kind of crap bugs me, but I don't let it get to me,because I had stuff liek it odne freshman year. What came next was what bothered me. Not only did he insult me and all the cadets there, he then proceede to say that " he hated officers and they just get in the way" then he wenton a rampage aboutchaplains and then finally women and why he should have to act different around them. My blood was boiling, of course all he anted me to do was say something that sounded remotley liekdisrespect and he coul have gotten me kicked out. I held my tongue, but was so angry. First of what bad leadership to say in front of abunch a privates that officers are worthless. He obviosly hatesthem, and by doing things liek this allhe is doing is increasing the rivalry between officers and Nco's and festering disrespect on both sides. He eanrned his sergeant rank and has been in Iraq, and because of that I give him some credit, but it does notchange the fact that in my short military career he most definitely stands out as having the worst leadership qualities I have seen. I hope they will soon change.
